Colour Correction v/s colour grading are two different things it’s a process that occurs during post-production. The process of colour correction and colour grading is not the same they are different from each other and also have a different purpose. If you want to edit videos properly then you must know the difference between both of them. In post-production, they are essential and used together to make a finished film.

Colour Correction

In films, colour correction techniques is been used in post-production to give the video a natural look. Colour correction is been done by film colourists who use editing software to colour correct any footage. In the colour correction process film, colourists try to fix colour issues and make them look as natural as possible. They try to keep colours real and look clean as our eyes see them in the real world.

In colour correction, we fix issues with the original colours in the video and make it naturalistic. Do many people get confused about what to do first? Colour Correction or Color Grading. So, basic colour correction is done first then later colour grading. Technical colour errors are also been corrected by colourists. While shooting a film if there is no proper lighting then colourists can correct the lighting of the footage in post-production. We also use colour correction in visual effects to blend it into the footage.

Color Grading

In the colour grading process, we change the emotions of shots by adding new colours to the overall footage. After completing the process of colour correction they begin with the process of colour grading. They use editing software for grading the footage to make it look more cinematic. It’s not compulsory to use colour grading every time because if the colourist wants to keep the footage as real as possible then he will use every less. With the help of colour grading, we set a mood and visual tones in the footage.

Colourists get connected with the film directors to know their requirements later they decide how much amount of colour grading can be done in the footage. Colour grading is one of the most important processes because we change the overall mood of our footage to convey an impactful message with the final image.
